Fashion Journey
I hated dressing myself from the ages of 10 - 17. I felt like I couldn’t have a cute personal style for most of my life because of my body size. I wish I could go back in time and tell young Journey to “WEAR WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT!” But hey, what’s a journey without a story?
College is when I started to accept myself. I started thrifting more, and realized size isn’t real, Wear what fits and looks good. Through clothes, I’ve learned to love my body. I’m proud of myself for developing my personal style, especially as a plus-sized person.
Every day I get up and challenge myself to wear something I haven’t before. (On busy days I serve up something I know is good). I would describe my personal style as indie rocker hippie plus chic. I get inspiration from Chicano culture, 70’s rock/indie scenes, 2000s tabloids, and from animes I watch.
Enjoy the outfits I have crafted that all filled me with self-love and acceptance.
Environmental Impact!
All of my clothes are sourced from second-hand resale stores. In a world of overconsumption, I believe in repurposing clothes so as to not overload the Earth with pollution. With sustainable fashion, I choose pieces I know can be styled in multitudes of ways. When I am done with items, I donate them or give them to friends. I recommend learning more about this by researching fashion’s impact on the environment. For these reasons, I choose to be ethical in my styling choices.
Pinterest is where I get my inspiration and where I organize my thoughts! An example is my Pinterest board for my trip to Miami!
