WRITING

Political Communication has taught me the importance of rhetoric; how to break it down, and craft it. This skill has transversed into my advertising work because I tackle problems through a communication lens. I loved the classes I have taken, they not only forced me to keep up with current events but have strengthened my love for writing. These are various research essays I have written for my political communication classes. I challenged myself to take creative routes with points of advocacy.

2020 Language, Communication, & Culture - 10 essays

This class explored how culture and society influence our communication with others. The final project for the class was to compile a portfolio of 10 three-page essays. The three essays from this project I am most proud of are:

Essay 2: “Hegemonic Masculinity in the Age of Trump”

Essay 3: “Anxiety and Acceptance: The Musical Metaphors Subjectivity of Lesbianism”

Essay 6: “A Microanalysis of the Frame on Psychedelics”

Aside from political discourse, Queerness, and the war on drugs, I have other essays that discuss culture, climate change, and race!

2021 Gender and Communication - “A Dive into The Biden-Harris Campaign”

I took away a lot from Gender and Communication. It was a very insightful class about hegemonic ideals for men, women, and everyone else in between while opening the conversation to intersectionality. Our final essay project was to analyze media or a campaign with concepts we learned from class. I decided to write about the Biden-Harris campaign and discussed the tactics of Biden’s team choosing a woman of color VP, how that played out in the media, and how that won them the ticket. As someone who wants to work on campaigns later in life, it was a very fun essay to write. I’m proud of this one, I hope you enjoy it!

We need more women of color in higher positions of power, and the media needs to stop reducing women down to their looks!

2022 Political Narratives - “The Biden Administration on Cannabis Reform”

“Politics is a conversation of life or death.” - Dr. Hart. That is a quote I will take with me for the rest of my life from this class. I learned so much about political cycles, campaigns, and the media. Our final project was to talk about one platform point within the Biden Campaign, and how his administration was following up on that. As a Mexican, I’ve been adjacent to other people of color who’ve been subject to wrongful cannabis convictions. While in some states, legal cannabis industries are controlled by white people. In this essay I go over the history, Biden’s promise, and Biden’s lack of actions.

However, this was written in April of 2022, Biden administration has done more! I think it was this essay that pushed him.
