Student Government Social Media Deck - Spring 2023

My friend William approached me to be a co-director of social media for his upcoming Student Government campaign. This is the third student government campaign I have been asked to be a part of, but now I have a larger skill set to offer. With the help of my co-director, we were able to create a social media strategy that will best spread campaign awareness to a specific segment of UT students. As seen in previous elections, Instagram is the main channel that effectively targets students, so our team sought out new creative tactics to garner the attention of voters who align with our target audience.

For this deck, a lot of the work was split between my co-director and me. My main focus was campaign values, content strategy., and content examples. I came up with the concept look for HXWC through Pinterest, and came up with the color pallet, and png designs. For content strategy, I came up with content ideas for the different channels. As for content examples, I used procreate and other applications that allow me to make mock-ups. Overall, my ideas and creativity are shown throughout the entire deck.

We did not take a traditional mode of student government campaigning. Helen and William are two students trying to appeal to students, so we ditched traditional political strategies.

Through the two weeks of campaigning, my co-director and I acted as overseers and had a social media team to help produce content. At this time, my main jobs were to edit videos and upkeep Instagram. I would respond to comments, DMs, and mass-follow students. As seen in our strategy deck, I focused on following Freshmen, Sophomores, and students apart of advocacy organizations such as the Black Students Association, and QTBIPOC.

Helen and William won! I’m very proud of the work that I produced and am honored I had the chance to help two amazing students into these positions.
